How to make Chiya




Nepali people are habitual to tea. They drink tea at least two times a day. Morning start with a hot boiled tea. It is often milked tea with sugar. Tea are very easily made by boiling water, milk, tea and sugar together in a kittle. When the mixture boils and becomes reddish, that's Nepali tea. Some prefer black tea without milk too. But the first one is popular. In hilly and mountain region some people drink tea  with salt and ghee instad sugar and milk.

Tea is very popular in Nepal greet one another saying "did you drink tea?" for morning and noon greetings. Guests are treated with hot tea. It is a tradition in most of the communities in Nepal to serve guests with tea. If you go someones's house and you are not offered anything, then the guest complains, "they din't even ask for a cup of tea".

Ingredients for two cups

 

Milk – one cup

Water – One cup

Sugar – 2 t-spoons

Tea Powder– 2 t-spoons

You may add:

Cardamom, Cloves, Ginger, Black pepper, etc.

 

Method

 

Boil water with tea power in it for 5 minutes


Put sugar in boiling water and stir it and put Cardamom, Cloves, Ginger, etc


Pour a cup of milk and let it boil for a while


Watch the color. Make it darker for strong ones


Add some black pepper, if you want for flavor.

 

Serve it in steel cups to feel the taste of real Nepali tea.
