Garam Masala

How to make Garam Masala



  • Cumin seeds-2 tablespoons
  • Coriander seeds-2 tablespoons
  • Cardamom seeds-2 tablespoons
  • Black peppercorns-2 tablespoons
  • Cinnamon-1stick
  • Whole cloves-1 teaspoon
  • Szechwan pepper peppercorns (timur)-1 teaspoon
  • Grated nutmeg-1 teaspoon
  • Ground dried ginger (optional)-1 teaspoon


Turn on the stove

Heat a dry heavy skillet over medium heat

Put the cumin, coriander, cardamom, black peppercorns, cinnamon, cloves and timur
Roastthe spices, stirring constantly

When they turn darker and smoky aroma can be felt

Reserve in a large plate and spread out to cool

In a grinder grind all the mixtures to make a fine powder

Store in an airtight container

Garam Masala is ready to serve!
