Moong Ko Halwa

Moong Dal Halwa is a rich, creamy and pudding-like dessert. Made with split yellow moong dal. This is a popular and delicious dessert for the winter season.

How to make Moong Halwa

Big pan 1 (I prefer thick bottom to fry moong dal)
Small pot (to make sugar surup)

Moong dal- half cup
Ghee- half cup
Sugar - half cup
Cardamom powder-5 to 8
Saffron a Pinch
Water-2 cups
Sliced almonds (for garnish)-1 tablespoon

Moong dal ko halwa

Wash moong dal thoroughly and soak in water until it becomes soft

Drain the water

In a blender blend moong dal into thick paste (adding as less water as you can)

In a pan boil 1 cup of water and 2 cups of sugar to make sugar syrup

Heat for 3 to 4 minutes and remove from heat

Add cardamom powder and saffron stir it well and set aside to cool

In a pan heat the ghee and add moong dal paste

Mix it well

Let it cook in medium heat until fully cook

Gently press and fold the paste over again and again

When the texture becomes grainy and light brown in color it gives sweet, mild aroma, the smell indicates it is cooked

Now turn on the heat to low and add sugar syrup little by little

The syrup will splatter as you are add

Now cover it and cook for 2-3 minutes more

Remove cover and stir

Cook for one more minutes then turn off the heat

Garnish with almonds

Halwa will turn out to be thick after some time

Moong halwa tastes best if served warm
