Dahi Bara

How to Make Dahi Bara


Ingredients (for Bara)

Moong ko dal- 3/4 cup washed
Mas ko dal-1/4 cup washed 
Cooking Oil to fry
Yogurt-1 and half cup
Salt-1 teaspoon
Red chili powder-1/2 teaspoon
Cumin seed powder (roasted)-1/2 teaspoon 
Tamarind chutney (imli ko achar) - 3 tablespoons
Bhujiya - 1 cup

This ingrediants makes about 30 Baras

Method


To make the bara
 
Mix both moong and maas dal and wash several times until water is clear

Soak dal in 4 cups of water for at least for six hours

Drain the water and blend dal to very creamy paste put some salt and red chili powder as desired into it (use as less water as you can)

Whip this batter using a spoon for about 3 minutes till it becomes light and fluffy

Keep a bowl of water handy 

Then start making bara 

In your right palm take some batter and make shape of bara (make it round ball and make a whole in the center)  

Heat a flat frying pan

Do not put more than 1/2 inch of oil in the frying pan.

keep the heat medium 

When oil is hot dip about 1 tablespoon of batter into the oil (Batter should not be covered by oil this will allow the bara to expand)

Fry bara until golden brown 

After you have made all of the bara, place them in Luke warm water and soak for 20 minutes

Next squeeze water, being careful not to break bara


To make Yogurt topping and Garnish


Take two cups of yogurt and smooth it using a spoon

To make it more smooth add a cup of water

Add about 1 teaspoon of salt 

Soak all the bara in yogurt batter for twenty minutes

Pick up bara and transfer them into a serving dish

Pour a few spoons of extra yogurt all over 

Before serving, sprinkle some salt, ground roasted cumin seeds, red chili powder and bhujiya on the top top

Now give a finishing touch by drizzling tamarind chutney

Dahi bara is ready to serve enjoy!
